Monsterland Bar & Grill

Dig it!! For Monsterland, Friday the 13th was anything but unlucky. The horror-themed restaurant and nighttime hot spot had its grand opening last week, attracting nearly 1,400 people on Friday and Saturday. It was a strong opening, but the restaurant is still working on finding the silver bullet that will ensure success. Monsterland was originally a two-story haunted house that opened last October. After the Halloween season was over, owner Kevin Wynn conceived of starting a restaurant and nightclub as a way to use the property year-round. Part of the top floor was cleared for the tables and bar, but guests still need to pass a crumbling castle, graveyard and animated props such as a werewolf leering from atop a wall. The downstairs will remain a haunted house, and this October, patrons will be able to watch others being scared on monitors set up on the patio. Story in the link.

Jonathan Frid R.I.P.

I shared this sad news yesterday on Facebook, but was unable to post here until today. Sad news for fans of Dan Curtis' classic Dark Shadows. Jonathan Frid, the immortal Barnabas Collins, has passed away at the age of 87. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Frid when I was younger at one of his one man shows of dramatic readings, and he was gracious, entertaining and a true gentelman. R.I.P.

Guthrie Haunts Scaregrounds - SCARETACULAR

With just 10 days to go the list of activities, vendors and guests still keeps growing.

If you are going to be in the Guthrie, OK area (just north of Oklahoma City) on Friday, April 13, 7-Midnight. You need to come to Guthrie Haunts Scaregrounds to experience one of Oklahoma's most horrific haunted houses/event grounds.

Legendary Oklahoma Horror Host - Count Gregore will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures, you will have the opportunity to purchase his movies and autobiography. Oklahoma horror author Dennis McDonald will be there promoting his current book, Ebon Moon, and giving you a sneak peek at his latest work a zombie novel titled, Dead Flesh. Artist and Director Felix Matos will be selling his original paintings and prints, we might even get him to show a trailer for his film, Pumpkin. You can meet the OKC Roller Derby Girls or check out the Custom Hearse and Rod Show. After that check out one of the Paranormal Investigation Teams giving demonstrations, since this building has actually been deemed "Haunted" (trust me it is VERY creepy being there at midnight - ALONE). Also, there will be a horror film room, Offspring will be showing as well as various short horror films brought to us by Art Sunday and Arts Free Movie Nights in OKC. And if you get hungry or would like to purchase some outstanding art there will be a few great art & food vendors on the grounds.

Cost: $8 Adults; $5 12-17: children FREE.
