Mars Attacks
Some cool info courtesy of CBR:
Leading into the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con, IDW Publishing and Topps today announced a long-term partnership to offer new comics based on the fan-favorite Mars Attacks. Created in 1962, Mars Attacks will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2012 with major product launches throughout the year. IDW’s new comic series, as well as high-quality reprints of existing material, will be a cornerstone of that effort.
“We are excited to be partnering with Topps on this classic brand. Mars Attacks has always been a favorite of the comics creator community, and fans can look forward to top talent bringing their visions to fruition,” said Greg Goldstein, IDW’s Chief Operating Officer. “I know we will definitely bring the comics to the next level.”
Originally developed as a series of trading cards, Mars Attacks was created by Len Brown and Woody Gelman, after Brown was inspired by the Wally Wood cover to Weird Science #16 (EC Comics). The cards went on to achieve cult status for their then-shocking imagery, fully painted by pulp legend Norm Saunders, and remains a staple of pop culture. Topps revived the franchise in the mid 1990s with a second card set, comic book series and toy line. The story was also adapted into the 1996 feature film, Mars Attacks!, directed by Tim Burton.
“When looking for a comics partner for Mars Attacks, we wanted a publisher with the right creative sensibilities and an appreciation of our brand’s fifty-year legacy,” said Ira Friedman, Topps/VP, Global Licensing. “There’s no doubt that IDW will provide a great home for us. We’re looking forward to Mars Attacks complementing their existing stable of powerhouse franchises.”
Debuting in summer 2012, IDW’s comic series will offer the first stories of an all-new Mars Attacks universe, bringing the brand’s outrageous action and dark humor to a new set of tales.

Chopper - Slice 1

Hey, freaks - check it out. I first covered this series back in February, and now it's here.
From the Press Release, courtesy of STYD:
While Paranormal Activity 3 was scaring up box office records in the theaters this past weekend- proving the horror genre’s undying vitality- another original ghost story was creeping its way into people’s homes via the internet. Chopper, an online horror series starring Tyler Mane (Michael Myers, Halloween) and Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) launched its premiere episode late Friday night and proved its own scrappy success by managing to go viral despite the challenges of producing and promoting webseries with micro-budgets compared to traditional Hollywood fare.
The first episode (aka “Slice 1”) was designed to introduce audiences to the scary world of outlaw bikers that underpins the series’ sub-plots- along with establishing the explosive tension between key characters that will lead to bloody mayhem in future episodes. Former brothers-in-arms Mad Dog (Bryniarski) and Jeremiah Carver (Mane- aka Chopper) face off over the whereabouts of Chopper’s signature blade and leave audiences wondering what insanity might unfold when they meet again. Future episodes will shed light on who- or what- ultimately wrestled control of the deadly blade and set up new storylines intended to unfold in future seasons both online and via feature film(s).
Produced by Dilemma, a Los Angeles based Branded Entertainment and Marketing Communications Agency, Chopper is essentially a contemporary spin on the timeless Sleepy Hollow mythology. Storylines revolve around a headless outlaw biker seeking vengeance in the afterlife by killing mortal sinners. The project- based on the recent Asylum Press comic- was written, produced and directed by Dilemma principal J.C. Christofilis. Chopper received sponsorship support from bold brands including the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival and Sullen Clothing and also features special appearances from bands including Machine Head, Straightline Stitch and Unearth. Newcomers Attika7 (former members of Biohazard and Static-X) also contribute heavily to the rocking soundtrack.

Yachtsman eaten by cannibals?
Check out this weird story........
German sailor Stefan Ramin was on the trip of a lifetime when it turned into a nightmare on an island in the middle of nowhere. He set off on 2008 with his girlfriend and traversed the globe looking for paradise - but it took a horrible twist when he reached Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia. The remote tropical island was the last place Mr Ramin was seen before remains, believed to be his, were uncovered.
Experts believe he was "hacked to pieces and burned" and eaten by suspected cannibals.

Zombies hurt on "Resident Evil" set
This made me laugh.........
Emergency crews called to an accident on a film set in Toronto were confronted with alarming blood and gore - but it wasn't as bad as it looked..."
It did kind of catch us off-guard when we walked in," said police Sergeant Andrew Gibson.
Nicole Rodrigues, EMS: "I was trying to figure out where the blood was coming from and what blood was real blood."
"I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying 'Oh my God'," Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph told Associated Press news agency.

Curse of the Phantom Shadow
What up, boils & ghouls! Check out this cool indie retro serial project titled Curse of the Phantom Shadow that needs some help.
Here's the plot summary:
The year is 1948 and the United States has a new enemy, The Phantom Shadow. This dark figure has diabolical plans for captured scientist, Dr. Hammond, and his War Department weapons of mass destruction. Upon the Phantom Shadow launching a treacherous missile attack on key locations in the United States, the government takes action. There is only one man to call, Agent 236, an elite government agent. Agent 236 has been dispatched to launch a rescue. Along the way, Agent 236 is befriended by a spunky, sarcastic, gas station attendant who just happens to have pinup girl good looks. She also just happens to be looking for a little action, and excitement. Luckily, Agent 236 is the man of her dreams. Agent 236 puts the station attendant and her tow truck into service in pursuit of the Phantom Shadow.
However, in order to complete this project, they still need additional funding. Most of the film has been funded with personal savings, but the filmmakers need to finish the last 25% of the flick.
