"Firestarter" set to receive a make-over

Hello everyone, it looks like Stephen King's 1984 Firestarter is about to get a reboot. I have been wanting this movie remade for along time, but only for the special effects they were a little weak to say the least.....fireballs floating on wires, come on? Although they will NEVER be able to replace that eclectic, spectacular cast...Drew Barrymore, George C. Scott, Martin Sheen, Heather Locklear, Art Carney, David Keith, Louise Fletcher, and Freddie Jones.

Here is what they guys over at Movieline have to say about it...

At this point there's a screenwriter on board and a few changes are definitely afoot, but it certainly looks like we'll have a new version of 'Firestarter' relatively soon. Variety reports that the De Laurentiis Company is actively moving forward on this reboot (which is intended to kick-start a new franchise, apparently) and to that end the've tapped screenwriter Mark L. Smith ('Vacancy', 'The Hole') to "loosely" adapt the Stephen King novel and give the lead character "a little more edge."

Apparently the production company is keeping plot details under wraps, which is a little weird considering we've all read the book and seen the movie, but hey, whatever adds a little new spice to yet another '80s horror film remake. Martha De Laurentiis had this to say: ""We see this as a unique, character-driven thriller with a supernatural edge, based on a timeless concept and enhanced by recent visual effects advances." In other words: the new lead will be a teenager and we can expect lots of fireballs of the CG variety.

Who would be your picks to replace that stellar cast?

  2. I forgot to add who I thought should fill in for the remake...

    Drews role...Chloe Morentz
Her fathers role...Steve Buscemi (call me crazy, but he would kill it, especially if they kept it really dark) or
George C. Scotts role...I think the part is made for Johnny Thunder, the characters name WAS John Rainbird.
Heather Locklears role...any hot blonde would do, she is not in the movie very much.

  3. "loosely adapt the Stephen King novel".....that makes me nervous.
