The Colonial Theatre’s Spooktacular: The Return of the Living Dead/Keene, NH/October 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Thanks to Mark over at Saturday Fright Special for the head's up on this event! Check it out -

Zombies run wild in Keene NH at The Colonial Theatre's SPOOKTACULAR (Saturday, October 30, 7PM). Curated by Saturday Fright Special, New Hampshire's first home-grown horror host TV show, the event features a rare 35mm screening of the 1985 zombie horror/comedy THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. In addition to the main feature, vintage 80s horror movie previews, snack bar ads, and other celluloid oddities will precede the film, along with prize giveaways, a zombie costume contest and on-stage appearances by Scarewolf and other Saturday Fright Special characters. The event marks the first time that an R-rated film will be presented at a Spooktacular.

"Until now the Spooktaculars have been all-ages events that focused on the re-creating the feeling of sitting in a grand old theater in the 1960s and 70s," says Mark Nelson, SATURDAY FRIGHT SPECIAL curator for the event, “This time out we wanted to kick things up a notch and offer something a little edgier, and a pinch of nostalgia for those who grew up in the Reagan years. We felt that THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD was the perfect choice for the kind of silly/scary vibe that the Spooktacular is known for.” Nelson also said that the group is hoping as many people as possible come to the show dressed as zombies: “The idea of a theater full of people dressed as zombies sitting there watching a zombie movie is just too good an opportunity to pass up,” Nelson said, “And aside from that, I really want to see the looks on the faces of passerby when a theater full of zombies empties out onto Main Street after the show!”

The film follows a group of 80s punk rockers who find themselves in the middle of a zombie outbreak, serving up equal portions of laughs and screams as the heroes fight for survival, all set to a hard-rock soundtrack.

The SPOOKTACULAR will also feature prize giveaways including an original zombie sketch from renowned comic artist S.R. Bissette, as well as horror DVDs, T-shirts and more. The costumed cast from Saturday Fright Special will be on hand to introduce the film and mingle with the public.

This will be the fifth Spooktacular presented by the Colonial Theatre, and the third annual Halloween outing for the event. “We’re excited to be able to present an event that will appeal to a slightly different audience this time out," said Jessica Reeves, Director of Marketing for The Colonial Theatre. "The Spooktaculars have always appealed to a wide age range of patrons, but this time out we’re giving the grown-ups a little treat for themselves.”

Tickets are on sale now ($10 general admission). For more information, or to purchase, call The Colonial Theatre Box Office at 603/352-2033 or visit
