Del Toro to Direct The Haunted Mansion

Dig on this Comic-Con news, boils and ghouls!

Guillermo Del Toro just announced he is going to direct a Haunted Mansion redo willy for Disney.

"We are not returning Eddie Murphy's calls...and we are not making it a comedy," he said. "We are making it scary and fun, but the scary will be scary." Sweet! The new flick is said to star the Hatbox Ghost who will also be re-introduced into the original ride.

More details as they come! This sounds like a fun flick for sure.

  1. Oh that just made my day!!!

Damn, I wish I was at Comic Con :D

    Thanks for the update.

  2. This is great news! Thanks for sharing!

  3. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Not sure what to think, Del Toro is the man, but I want his Frankenstein movie or Hellboy 3. I am just being selfish though. me me me me

  4. Yahoo! Maybe this ride will get the cinematic justice it deserves!

  5. HOT #@%$&!!!!! I was sorely disappointed with the travesty that came out the first time!

  6. I'm with Gary B.! del Torro shouldn't waste his talents on Disney drek! I too want FRANKENSTEIN!!! Hellboy 3 would wicked cool too!

  7. YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a HUGE Mansion-ite (nerd enough to know the whole ride spiel by heart, lol) and I was sooooo disappointed with what Disney gave us the first time around.
This news inspires me to finish my Haunted Mansion article! Long live the Hat Box Ghost!!
btw, you would think with all Disney's new technology they could actually get the gag to work by now and return him to some part of the Mansion.

  8. I'm excited about this...after the cool treatment of POTC I was really excited about The Haunted Mansion movie...but tuned out about 15 minutes in...I say give it another go and make it right this time. Thanks for the heads up...can't wait.

  9. Yes! I've been waiting for a film that does justice to the HM. I hope they go with a quality script instead of trying to create a fast buck at the box office.

I like that they are going for a scary "horror-like" approach (with the beloved Hatbox Ghost as the villain).

But a live-action horror movie in 3D? How many really good 3D horror movies have there been?? (Creature from the Black Lagoon, House of Wax...)

  10. Just catching up on your blog JT. I understand from a later post, DT isn't doing this project now.
