Del Toro to Direct The Haunted Mansion

Dig on this Comic-Con news, boils and ghouls!

Guillermo Del Toro just announced he is going to direct a Haunted Mansion redo willy for Disney.

"We are not returning Eddie Murphy's calls...and we are not making it a comedy," he said. "We are making it scary and fun, but the scary will be scary." Sweet! The new flick is said to star the Hatbox Ghost who will also be re-introduced into the original ride.

More details as they come! This sounds like a fun flick for sure.

  7. YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a HUGE Mansion-ite (nerd enough to know the whole ride spiel by heart, lol) and I was sooooo disappointed with what Disney gave us the first time around.
This news inspires me to finish my Haunted Mansion article! Long live the Hat Box Ghost!!
btw, you would think with all Disney's new technology they could actually get the gag to work by now and return him to some part of the Mansion.

  9. Yes! I've been waiting for a film that does justice to the HM. I hope they go with a quality script instead of trying to create a fast buck at the box office.

I like that they are going for a scary "horror-like" approach (with the beloved Hatbox Ghost as the villain).

But a live-action horror movie in 3D? How many really good 3D horror movies have there been?? (Creature from the Black Lagoon, House of Wax...)
